New Albums: What's On The Horizon?Wondering what you have to look forward to on the Latin music front? Here's a peek at some of the new music coming to you in the next couple of months. Pee Wee Gonzalez Debut Album
If his just released single "Cumbaya" is anything to judge by, Pee Wee will do just fine. Yo Soy is scheduled to be released on Aug, 11, 2009. "Cumbaya" is currently airing in the Latin Music Theater. Jon Secada Goes Brazilian Jon Secada was just a kid when his parents brought him north to Miami from Cuba. Last month the award winning singer/songwriter headed south, only this time to Rio de Janeiro for a live concert that will be taped this Friday, followed by a five date Brazilian tour. With Secada will be Brazilian sensation Marina Elali and the duo will be performing duets in English, Spanish and Portuguese. This project is more than a single concert/tour deal. It's the result of collaboration between music entrepreneur JC Salvatierra, Brazilian record company Som Livre and live entertainment's Grupo Tom Brasil and will result in a new brand with more exciting projects in the future. I'm not sure what these projects will look like, but I say 'ole!' to any project that brings us more collaborations like this one. Although it would be great to fly down to Rio for the concert, most of us will have to wait for the live concert DVD & CD titled The Best of Jon Secada Live from Rio. I'll bring you the release date when it's announced. Nelly Furtado's Next Album - All Spanish Nelly Furtado may be of Portuguese descent but she's made her name singing in English, with a few Portuguese tunes thrown in. She did sing a duet, "Tu Fotografia" with Juanes on his 2002 album Un Dia Normal ; Juanes returned the favor by appearing with her on "Te Busque" from Furtado's 2006 Loose. Always popular in the Latin music market, Nelly Furtado has just announced an all-Spanish language album (no title yet) scheduled to be released on Sept. 26th, 2009. Bebe Announces Album #2 It's been 5 years since Spain's Bebe won music lover's hearts - and those of critics as well - with her 2004 album Pafuera Telaranas (Out With The Spiderwebs). Now she's back with a new album tentatively titled Y Punto. The announcement in Spain claims the album should be out around June 30, but that may well be a European release since I don't see the album on any of the U.S. new album lists. I'll let you know as soon as it appears. In the meantime, the announcement reminded me how much I loved the single "Malo" from Pafueras so I've reprised the video in the Latin Music Theater for your (and my) enjoyment.
