History
In 2007, Adina Gaskin and Shawn Simmons teamed together in hopes to help build the Latin dance community in Hampton Roads, the Seven Cities, by creating a public awareness of the new and upcoming salsa dance community that was just beginning to blossom. The vision was to build the dance community in hopes of reaching great heights as seen in other nearby cities like Raleigh, NC and Washington DC. This was only going to be accomplished by bringing together dance instructors, DJs, bands, venues and... effective marketing to the local community, that had no clue this exciting craze actucally existed here in Hampton Roads.
Within the first year many new faces began to show up at events through the consistant word of mouth and the website promotions for free salsa dance lessons being held at Club Sevens in Norfolk. This lead to added awareness of Norfolk's very first Latin dance studio, the Mambo Room. As other venues began showing interest in holding events at their establishments there soon became something to do many nights of the week to curve that hunger to dance as seen on the timeline below.
Today, Seven Cities Salsa continues to help grow its local dance community by offering its services in promoting and organzing events, marketing of local Latin influenced businesses through its website and other many different media types.
